Downtime and Expansion

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Dear Subvert and Profit Advertisers and Users:

Please accept our apologies for the recent downtime. Our domain host, GoDaddy, suspended our account until it completed a spam review. Unfortunately, in order to resolve the issue, we had to change our registration from that filed by one of our deceased founders. This process took us by surprise and we apologize for not being able to keep you in the loop. Thank you for your patience over the past week or so.

To be perfectly clear, we do not send spam. We only send important messages and voting assignments to registered users. Users who wish to opt-out may do so at any time by emailing us or logging in and pressing the “delete account” button. We have decided that we should take this opportunity to allow all of our users to opt-in to important messages (such as this one). If you do not opt-in now, you will no longer receive important messages. To opt-in to important messages, click the following link:

One of our email channels was domain-dependent and the downtime may have dropped your recent email to us, so please resend your email so that our team can address your needs.

On a lighter note, we have some very good news to share. We have taken the downtime as an opportunity to recode our site and to expand our content placement to additional social media sites including video, news, business, music and gaming sites both large and small. This will mean more profit opportunities for our social users and more exposure and more options for advertisers. Stay tuned for more information in the coming days and weeks and get ready to expand crowdsourcing to millions.

To stay in the loop, remember to opt-in to important messages. Here’s that link again:

Until next time, Subvert and Profit!

Sincerely,
Ragnar Danneskjold

Smooth operation

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

It has been a busy few days since we reopened at the beginning of the week. We wanted to let you know about some of the issues we have resolved recently and what you can expect in the near future.

Recent issues:

  • After we opened account access, if you tried to purchase advertisements, you may have found a message about the server move last month. The page for purchasing advertisements is now open for everyone and we apologize for the inconvenience.
  • If you tried to create an account recently, you may have run into the same message.
  • We reached the maximum number of emails we could send per hour several times this week. Suffice it to say, we can now send unlimited emails. If you missed the major announcements at the beginning of the week, send us an email and we’ll fill you in.

The future:

  • We have a queue of pending withdrawal requests from social users. We will be approving them and sending out payments over the next week or so.
  • It takes less than an hour now for us to verify new Digg and StumbleUpon accounts. If you have an unverified account that has lasted longer than that, send us an email.
  • The blog is now up and running.
  • Stay tuned over the next several weeks for new features and deals.

We’re excited that we’re now up and running and operating smoothly. As always, send us an email if you have any issues or requests. Until next time, Subvert and Profit!

Tragedy and the future

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

With deep sadness, the Subvert and Profit team brings you news of a tragic accident last month that took the life of one of our founders. The past weeks have been very difficult for family, friends and fellow crowdsourcing marketers. The sudden sense of personal shock and grief contrasted starkly with the euphoria and vibrancy associated with the innovative expansion that has been underway here at Subvert and Profit.

Nonetheless, we must apologize for the resulting effects that, until now, have given us pause in accepting your content and votes. As we are celebrating the life of one of our brilliant undercover marketing pioneers, we are uplifted to know of your support, and we are at your service to assist you in high-rank placements and content voting assignments.

Last month we moved to a new dedicated server. The move was successful, and we apologize to those of you who may have thought that we spent the last month figuring out the new server, when in fact we spent it figuring out how to move on in the face of tragedy. We will be opening account access again within the next week, and we will send out another announcement when that happens. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Now accepting StumbleUpon advertisements! New guidelines published

Monday, July 16th, 2007

That’s right, our second ship is now in full service of the fleet. Go add funds and buy some votes on StumbleUpon! They’re only $1 a piece, and unlike our Digg service, you can test our StumbleUpon service out one vote at a time if you’d like.

But before you do, let’s talk about how it’s gonna go down. Since StumbleUpon is not time-sensitive like Digg, we can stretch out our gaming activity over the course of a few days to avoid detection, and this is what we are going to do. So, don’t be alarmed if you don’t get all your votes in a short period of time. Also, at this early stage in our operation, where we’re still just testing the waters, we’d like you to limit the number of votes you buy for a particular URL to 30 per week. We may increase this number as we grow in experience with gaming StumbleUpon. Check out the new guidelines for further information.

Let’s do this thing!

Referral Links!

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

We are pleased to introduce referral links. You now have the option to either send an email to your friends through our site, which will include your link, or post the link yourself into an email or on your blog. Bloggers, we’re looking at you.

Remember, we pay you 20% of your friends’ earnings forever! This does not affect your friends’ earnings. Our users earn anywhere from $3 to $10 per week… do the math yourself, and you will see that this could be one of the most lucrative affiliate programs on the Internet.

To see your link, log in and visit the Digg user page. The link is simply http://subvertandprofit.com/social/ + your Subvert and Profit username.

Thanks for Subverting - it’s time to Profit!

This Thing Actually Works - Some Preliminary Data

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

We’ve been promoting stories onto the front page of Digg for almost two weeks now, and we have surprised even ourselves at our effectiveness.  To protect our users, we can’t release too many details, but here are the most important tidbits:

  • Not a single user has reported being banned from Digg
  • The average user makes $3.50 per week, while top users make about double this.  This should increase as we get more advertisers.
  • Not a single advertiser has been dissatisfied with our service.
  • Our quality control on advertisements has worked amazingly.  Only on one story was there a single comment that suspected Digg-gaming due to the content of the story.  We quarantined the users on that story for two days, and nothing ever came of it.

So, what’s next?  We’re going to pick up the volume slightly on Digg, and then look beyond.  We don’t want to hurt Digg by promoting too many stories to the front page in a day.  So where are we looking?  Stay tuned…

If you are an advertiser or a user, feel free to post your experiences with our site, e.g. how much you’ve made, how many visitors you got to your site, etc.

Successful Launch!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

During the first three days of our operation, we have placed a good number of stories (both paid and random) on the front page of Digg. As far as we can tell, none of our users have been banned. We have kept almost all of our users busy.

Many of you have been asking when you can expect to see money in your account. We place money in your account once we have verified your activity. We try to verify all Digging activity for a day all at once, and we should be doing this within the next hour. *Update* Since our Ruby on Rails server decided to crap out tonight, we will verify your activity once it is up again.

A few of you encountered a couple minor bugs in the system. Thanks to your feedback, these bugs are now gone.

Operation will only get smoother, cleaner, and faster from here.

500 Users, Referral Program Doubled, and Launch Imminent!

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

After a week of awesome blogosphere coverage, we are approaching critical mass of users. What’s most interesting to us is that 10% of people who visit our site register for an account. Things are shaping up for an awesome launch.

We’ve decided to grease your palms even more for helping us build this site. We’ll now pay you 20% of the income of any user your refer to this site. This offer is amazing. You could actually make hundreds of dollars per month just by getting all of your friends to Digg for us. What’s more, there is absolutely zero cost to you. Do it!

With all this good news, we are almost ready to launch. We won’t give a date, but it may be this week.
